Sequencing Gif Animation Work Diary

When shooting for sequencing, we all went to the local park, as we aimed to shoot sequencing Gif animation, we thought the park would be a perfect place for this as there are lots of rides, which obviously, ensuring we will be able to show the movement in action, which could be shot in a sequence.

Favorite-

I learnt from the gif below where I took the 1st series of images that I need to make sure the tripod is stable and secure, In this shoot I have managed to do this successfully, also there is no parts in the gif where it overlaps due to the same images being used, showing the rotation and movement of the swing. Things I could've improved in this shoot are, shooting the movements of the swing to look more fluid in my shoot and also, if I had chosen the frame of my images as smaller it wouldn't have picked up other movement in the background, and the noise of light, for example the man walking along the fence and the movement of the swaying trees and changing light, but on the other hand all of these components also do add another interesting layer to the gif. I like the overall tonality and colours in the image, as they're all quite rich and deep, with different shades of green. The image connotes youth, having fun and friendship.

Worst-

This was the first series of images I shot, of Sarah climbing up a tower in the park, this is very ineffective as the tripod wasn't stable and so moved at each shot, creating the turning motion of the gif, also due to the rotation of the shoot, the light changes in brightness as the camera moves. Despite these factors I'm happy with the capture of Sarah climbing up the tower as there is no overlap, and you can clearly see the route and movements she takes to climb to the top. In the future I need to remember to always secure the tripod properly and situated on a level situation. The child connotes youth and having fun.

                                                                           Progression-

I'm uncertain as to whether i'd like to use sequencing Gif animation in my own photography project, as it may detract from the documentary type style I want to create, also I can't imagine many actions that I would want to capture in british culture, apart from maybe music and musicians playing their instruments, or live music, they're some ideas I'd like to incorporate in sequencing.

Wide Angle Close Up Work Diary

For this shoot I took pictures around the college and garden, I tried to incorporate the two elements of wide angle and close up in the same image, I took some images where the wide angle were out of focus and some where the whole shot was in focus, I am happy with some of the results I got.

Favourite-

This is my favourite of the images, as I love the clarity, the lighting, I think that the focus is crisp and clear on the subject of the aeroplane, the way the lights are all blurred in the background helps to make your eyes more automatically drawn to the main subject, creating a nice tonality in the shot. The Wide angle element of the shot is obviously the room, the close up (the aeroplane), the frame of the image is perfect in representing both elements and how they work together as a composition. The contrast is really stark and strong in the shot, there are lots of different tones of green, this is very aesthetically pleasing against the bright light and white backdrop, there are also a few leading lines in the composition, the main subject being an interesting shape has many lines in different directions, but one of the main lines that catches the viewers attention is in the middle of the shot; the lights moving down the centre of the shot, illuminating the whole image and drawing attention to different elements. I took the image without a tripod and close up maybe in future I could improve the image by having a higher ISO as the image is very heavy and dark, which can be seen as negative to the composition.

Worst-

This is my least favourite image, because of the overexposed look of light and the lack of defintion, however it is a good representation of wide angle and close up in an image. I particularly like the camera angle used as I took it from a low angle as to capture the close up subjective of the leaves against the wide backdrop of the building. The frame of the shot includes the top part of the leaves covering the backdrop of the overexposed building, the lines in the composition look strange yet interesting as the leading lines are not  quite horizontal or vertical, but both diagonally slanted, adding an interesting layer to the shot. Factors that could improve the shot are making sure the levels of light in the image, turning down the iso, blurring out the backdrop.

Progression-
Since I want to do documentary style as my photography project, wide angle close up shooting may be very useful as generally street photography is something I want to focus on in my project so I imagine that this shooting technique may be very effective at shooting context, such as portraiture with a backdrop or showing the relation between a main subject and the backdrop.

Focal Length Technique Post

Definition- The focal length of the lens is the distance between the lens and the image sensor when the subject is in focus, usually stated in millimeters (e.g., 28 mm, 50 mm, or 100 mm). In the case of zoom lenses, both the minimum and maximum focal lengths are stated, for example 18–55 mm.
Field of view is determined by the angle of view from the lens out to the scene and can be measured horizontally or vertically.

Larger sensors or films have wider FOV's and can capture more of the scene.

In 35mm photography, lenses with a focal length of 50mm are called "normal" because they work without reducing magnifying and creates images the way we see the scene with our naked eyes (same picture angle of 46 degrees).

Wide angle lenses (short focal length) capture more - wide picture angle.

Telephoto lenses (long focal length) narrow picture angle.

Macro Technique Post

Definition-
Photography producing photographs of small items larger than life size.

1) Magnification
Macro photography has to do with the size that your subject is projected onto your camera's sensor.
magnification on a macro lens would be life size . A 1:2 is half of life size. Above 1:10 you aren't really shooting macro anymore.

2) Working distance
working distance is the distance between your sensor and your subject at the closest possible focus distance for your lens.

1) Tripod
2) Fast shutter speed
3) manual camera settings
4) manual focus
5) no camera shake (be careful when pressing the button)
6) direct the shoot (composition/framing and where the moving elements will move from and to are important)
7) photo-editing software

Wide Angle Close Up Straight Images

Illustrated Project Proposal

Photographic Techniques:
  • black and white
  • film
  • portraiture
  • long exposure
  • Polaroid
  • wide angle
  • shadow
  • light
My Personal Investigation is: The areas and styles of photography that I want to focus on this year is documentary style photography, exploring British culture, I would really love to experiment with film photography and black and white. In some shoots I want to specialize in portraiture to explore how someones identity defines a culture, how the way they dress says something about them in terms of interests and beliefs.

This is a very interesting portrait, the image connotes British culture, as the man is clearly holding his dog which is an English bulldog this is a patriotic symbol of the UK, I like the deep colours of the shot the whole piece has a very good tonality, the image also has a very good frame as the contrast between the man and his dog and the dull backdrop of light grey's and beige looks amazing making the main subjects crisp and attention catching. The snapback and the joint/cigarette depicts general youth culture in Britain. This is a great documentary style piece.

This image depicts two girls fighting and people trying to hold them back as to disperse the fight, it's taking place on a terrace of a flat, with other run down flats in the background. The shot connotes youth, anger, working class etc, the scene is a very ordinary scene as youth generally argue and fight showing the value of taking images of normal everyday life, this is definitely something I want to encapsulate into my photography. The angle is also really good as it capture the scene along a wall with the backdrop of the environment that they come from in the background.

The shot shows a young woman rolling up cannabis, lying on her bed, the image shows habit, routine, drugs in normal everyday youth. I love the minimal style that Wheatley uses in all his photography, its very understated, documentary style images, I want to use this sort of style in my own shooting. The use of light in the image is very cool as it is very airy and yet subtle with a  very even tonality throughout the whole of the image. The frame and angle of the image pull us into the subjects world and the process of her drug use, making for an excellent documentary shot, also showing a great example of youth in British culture.

Gavin Watson shoots British subcultures, In this image it is of a new romantic/ skin youth with stereo, the image connotes style, The tonality of the piece is really contrasting and is emphasized by the black and white, the way his clothes and skin contrasts with the backdrop, gloves and stereo are very striking. I want to incorporate this black and white film portraiture into my style, the portrait is very effective as he has a possession which shows identity and his interests, giving the viewer a better understanding of the subject.

This image is very eery and  yet it is a coming of age, youth finding identity type piece, as the boy is getting his head shaved symbolising that he is a skinhead, maybe just introduced to the culture, but because of how young he looks all these questions are raised. The contrast is amazing in this with the dark colour of the boys skin against his mates hand cutting his hair, makes this a very nostalgic shot. Watson seems to incorporate activities in his portraiture as he has purposely shot  the process of the skin subculture, showing the value of identity in youth, this is a very interesting image.

The picture symbolises young love and adoration in teenagers, the image looks almost whitewashed, very pale but with clarity and contrast still. The boy in the picture looks proud to kiss his girlfriend and she looks like shes reluctantly enjoying it, the image shows the importance of British subcultures, how it forms identity and brings people together like the couple in the shot. It is a documentary piece with a nostalgic feel to it. I love the picture because it shows the beauty in being young and not caring.

Wide Angle And Close Up Technique

  1. Definition-
  2. Wide Angle: (of a lens) having a short focal length and hence a field covering a wide angle.

Close up: a photograph taken at close range or with a long focal-length lens, on a relatively large scale.

Macro: Photography producing photographs of small items larger than life size.
